What happened: A game-worn, autographed Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls road jersey from Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals has sold for $14,000,000 in a private treaty sale, Hunt Auctions announced October 12. The Exton, Pennsylvania, auction house calls the price a world record for any piece of basketball memorabilia.
The sale: The buyer is collector Ron Firman, originally from Rye, New York, per Hunt. AP identified him as a Miami real estate investor. Hunt did not name the seller. Per Hunt, the jersey was bought directly from the Bulls by a collector and has changed hands once since. MeiGray Authentication and SIA Authentication photomatched it to Game 2, and Jordan signed it at a signing authenticated by Upper Deck.
The game: Jordan wore the red road jersey on June 5, 1998, when Chicago beat the Utah Jazz 93-88 to even the series at one game apiece. He scored 37 points, per Hunt. The Bulls won the series in six games, the sixth and final title of Jordan’s career.
The record math: The price is $1,740,000 above the $12,260,000 paid for Jordan’s white Game 3 jersey from the same Finals, which sold in a Joopiter auction on September 29, 2026: $14,000,000 minus $12,260,000 equals $1,740,000. That Game 3 sale had topped the $10.1 million Sotheby’s realized in September 2022 for Jordan’s 1998 Finals Game 1 jersey, per ESPN.
The background: Among game-worn jerseys in any sport, only the $24.12 million paid in 2024 for Babe Ruth’s 1932 World Series “called shot” jersey is higher, per AP. Hunt also lists the $14,000,000 price as the second-highest paid for a game-used jersey of any sport.
